Founders Plaza

CCA provided landscape and hardscape design services for the renovation of a downtown plaza, meeting the challenge of a tight budget and a fast track, nine month design to construction schedule. Located adjacent to the historic West End District, the project required close coordination with the Landmark Commission, where CCA represented the owner throughout the review process.

To support client engagement during construction documentation, CCA developed 3D visualizations to clearly communicate design refinements and demonstrate how the space would be activated for pedestrian use. The new design replaced outdated exposed aggregate paving with large, circular patterns of dyed decorative concrete, bringing color and vibrancy to the plaza. Gravel areas were replaced with layered plantings, and new pathways were added to improve movement and spatial interest.

Design elements were carefully integrated around existing site constraints, including fountain infrastructure and a parking structure below. The resulting plaza honors the client’s goals by delivering a more beautiful, functional, and welcoming public space on time and within budget.
