UTSWMC Moncrief Cancer Institute

CCA provided landscape and hardscape design for this distinctive medical facility located within a growing urban redevelopment district. Two gardens frame the building—a private survivor garden and a public event garden—each featuring a specimen Live Oak and a water urn to honor cancer survivorship and ongoing research toward a cure.

The larger event garden was designed to accommodate special functions while serving as an accessible public plaza. Situated in Fort Worth’s Southside, the surrounding streetscape was expanded to meet urban revitalization criteria and functions as a pedestrian-oriented plaza. Design elements include seating, decorative paving, a large chess board, pedestrian-scale lighting, and planting that collectively activate the public realm.

Large modular concrete pavers define the passenger drop-off zone and guide visitors toward the building entry. Honed limestone blocks separate vehicular traffic from pedestrian circulation while also providing integrated seating within the arrival area.
