Walnut Creek Library
The design team was tasked to design and build a new public library for the City of Garland next to a recreation center to help revitalize and provide resources for a low-income area. The building had 18,985 SF of modern architecture with a grand front entrance of colored glass. The building was purposefully located adjacent to the existing recreation center so the two sites could share a parking lot, minimize impact to the park, and the recreation center walls could be used for movie projections from the library plaza.
The art plaza and outdoor patio are signature features of the new library site. CCA developed multiple schemes for the art plaza and patio at the library. CCA developed 2D and 3D renderings with image boards. The selected design is highlighted by a large play berm with colored climbing boulders on and around the berm.
